Copy variants detected and identified directly from the 16S sequencing chromatogram DNA sequencing of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene remains a cornerstone for identification of bacterial isolates. The 16S rRNA gene is a multi-copy gene in most bacteria. If base insertions and/or deletions have occurred in only a proportion of the gene copies, further chromatogram analysis will be complicated due to the resulting sequence ambiguity. This phenomenon, typically referred to as an “InDel”, can now easily be resolved through the web-based software RipSeq Mixed. English (PDF)
